Conflict Management using Public Participation GIS (PPGIS): Locating Undesirable Public Facilities in South Korea

Abstract

In South Korea, high-tech development has brought an increased demand for electricity, requiring the construction and expansion of high-voltage transmission power lines. However, residents living in affected areas have protested against the projects due to their unfavorable impact on property values, health, and the environment in their community.  In line with the growing demand for electricity, conflicts surrounding these lines have occurred in several areas since the turn of the century.
